The fleet at Leatherlips YC
The Comets have been part of Leatherlips since the club's early decades — a small, friendly group who keep the longest-running one-design class in North America alive on the reservoir. Owners share rigs, advice, and a soft spot for varnished wood.
About the Comet
A sloop-rigged centerboard dinghy designed for protected waters. The Comet has been raced at Leatherlips since the early years and remains one of the club's most enduring one-design classes.
Designed by C. Lowndes Johnson of Maryland in 1932 as a junior trainer for the Star class, the Comet quickly outgrew that role and became one of the longest continuously-raced one-design classes in North America.
