Leatherlips YC runs on self-help — members do the maintenance, run the races, and pitch in on the new projects that keep dues low. We sail and race for the love of it, at every skill level, and we help each other get better. If that sounds like you, here's how to join.

§ 01   How it works

Four steps to membership.

  1. Step 1

    Apply

    Fill out the application — basics, sailing history, and any boats you'd store on the grounds.

  2. Step 2

    Two signatures

    Get two active members to sign. Don't know any? Email the Membership Director — we'll connect you.

  3. Step 3

    Board reviews

    Submit with the $80.25 application fee. The Board of Governors reviews at its next monthly meeting.

  4. Step 4

    Pay dues, start sailing

    Once approved, pay dues for the calendar year. You'll get a gate, hoist, and clubhouse key.

Dues for the next calendar year are due before December 1. The $80.25 application fee is one-time and non-refundable.

§ 02   Membership categories

Four ways to belong.

Dues cover the dock, the clubhouse, shared boat maintenance, and insurance. Extra boats, empty trailers, and lockers are billed separately. Every member is expected to serve on Race Committee.

Active
Full privileges — gate & clubhouse key, year-round boat storage, voting, office, and Club reservations.

Active Young Adult
Ages 18–28. All Active benefits including a boat space. Covers spouse & children — not parents or siblings.

Junior Competition
For parents/guardians of sailors under 18 active in Club racing programs. No boat storage on grounds. Expires at the end of the year the eligible child turns 18.

Provisional
One-time on-ramp right after you or your kids finish the LYC Sailing Instruction Program. Active privileges for the rest of the year.

Numbers above are the 2024 rates and include Ohio sales tax; the Board sets dues yearly. A one-time $80.25 application fee is due with every new application.

§ 03   What we ask of members

A volunteer club. Everyone pitches in.

A · Race Committee

Two sign-ups a year.

Every member helps run racing — at minimum, two mandatory Race Committee assignments per season.

B · Self-help

Work parties & projects.

House & Grounds, social events, fund-raising — pick what fits your skills and show up a few times a year.

C · Boats & trailers

Registered, marked, ready.

All boats stored on the grounds need current Ohio registration. Trailers and dollies get marked with your last name.
