The fleet at Leatherlips YC
Fleet 21 has raced Thistles at Leatherlips for generations. Boats stay rigged on trailers in the lower lot all summer, ready for a quick launch when the wind comes up. The fleet travels deep into the Thistle national circuit each year.
About the Thistle
A light, fast, hiking three-person planing dinghy with a famously competitive national circuit.
Designed by Gordon 'Sandy' Douglass in 1945 from the same cold-molded mold he later used for the Highlander. The Thistle class is one of the oldest planing-dinghy classes in North America and has been raced at Leatherlips for generations.
